An introduction to Google Forms
Google Forms is a web application similar to Google Docs or Google Sheets and is used to create interactive surveys and other types of forms. Some common applications are:
- Event registration.
- User surveys and questionnaires.
- Email subscription sign-up forms.
- Quiz questions.
- Product orders.
- Contact forms.
You can choose from a variety of themes or simply add your logo to each form. The platform automatically adjusts the colors of your form, creating a unique look that goes well with your website. All Google Forms are also responsive, so your users can complete them from their smartphones or other mobile devices.
You can view your answer information and charts in forms at any time or export them to Google Sheets for further analysis. This makes organizing, evaluating, and sharing your results with your team easy and convenient.
Why you should embed Google forms on your WordPress site?
If you’re looking for ways to embed custom forms on your WordPress site, you’ve probably explored the option of using a WordPress Form Builder plugin. While these can be useful tools, there are a few reasons why Google Forms may be a better option.
First, using Google Forms allows you to take advantage of the platform’s save and share features. Second, using Google Forms allows you to avoid adding another plugin to your site, which can lead to slow load times, so reducing the load time can help improve your site’s performance.
Moreover, you can allow other users to create forms with a WordPress plugin, while Google Forms gives you complete control over who contributes to your content. You can invite specific users to work on any form to provide more security and avoid errors.
Finally, using Google Forms can help improve not only your WordPress site but also your brand’s overall presence. While a form created with a WordPress plugin only works on your website, you can share a Google Form on any platform, including through social media and marketing emails.
Regardless of where your audience fills out your Google Forms, their responses are recorded in a single place. This helps you track the results of a form across all of your brand’s channels, not just your website.
How to embed Google Form into your WordPress site (3 steps)?
If it sounds like Google Forms is the best solution for your WordPress site’s form-related needs, you’re in luck. Although the process isn’t quite as simple as installing a plugin, you can embed Google Forms on your site in just three easy steps.
Step 1: Create your Google Form
The first thing you need to do is create your first Google Form. Sign in to your Google account and then access Google Forms by finding the purple icon in the Google Apps menu:
If you’re a G Suite user, the Google Forms interface should look pretty familiar. It’s very similar to Google Docs and Google Sheets:
To get started with your form, you can either select the blank tile in the toolbar or choose a template to work from.
Either way, you can type directly into the form to add a title and description, and then create your questions and answer choices. You can also use the drop-down menu to select the type of each answer:
In the toolbar to the right of the editor, you can add new questions, import questions from another Google Form, upload images and videos, and create additional sections. You can then use the palette, eye, and gear icons to change the design of your form, preview the final product, and access advanced settings.
With these tools at your disposal, you should be able to make pretty much any type of form you need. If you want to get input from your team, click the three-dot icon and select Add Contributors:
You can then invite team members to work on your form by entering their email addresses or using the link-sharing feature. Your changes are automatically saved to your Google Drive. Once you’re done editing, you can embed your Goole form on your WordPress site.
Step 2: Access your Google Form embed code
To embed your Google Form, you need to click the Submit button at the top of the form editor. There you have five ways to share your form: via email, link, HTML, Facebook and Twitter:
Any of these could come in handy, especially if you want to send your form to all your email list subscribers or share it on your social media accounts.
For the purposes of this tutorial, however, we’ll focus on the HTML option. To do this, select the < > tab. Under Embed HTML you’ll see a code snippet as well as an option below to change the dimensions of your form.
When you’re happy with the size, click Copy in the bottom right corner of the window:
Step 3: Add the code to your WordPress post or page.
With the HTML code snippet at hand, you’re ready to embed the Google Form into your website. First, navigate to the post or page where you want to embed your form. If you are working in the WordPress Block Editor, you should add a custom HTML block:
Then paste the code from the Google Forms editor into this block:
When you click the Preview tab in the Custom HTML Block toolbar, your Google Form appears as it will appear on your website:
If you use the classic editor instead, the steps will be slightly different. To switch to the text editor, click the Text tab at the top of the toolbar:
Then you need to paste the embed code from Google Form wherever you want it to appear on your page:
When you switch back to the Visual Editor, you should see your form in the edit box:
You can also preview the page to see how it will look on the front end.
If you want to embed a Google Form in a WordPress post or page, that’s all it takes!
